Why Should You Learn to Swim?

Parents may wonder why they should invest in swimming lessons for your children when they have other activities to pursue, but swimming is actually one of the activities that should not be neglected!  According to the Government of Canada, drowning is the leading cause of death amongst children aged 1-4 years of age. Red Cross reports that 57% of drowning incidents occurred between May and August. The best precaution a parent can provide their child is to enroll them in swimming lessons to teach them how they can avoid drowning, and possibly save someone’s life!

Unlike other sports, babies as young as 4 months of age can start swimming lessons, and is an activity that can be enjoyed life long.  Introducing them at a younger age to water in a safe environment can reduce their fear of water when they grow older. This will help speed their progression once they start lessons, as they won’t have to overcome a fear of getting into the water like some older children may have to.

Swimming is a competitive sport that your child can persue!  It’s great for cardiovascular and muscle development, and it has a lower impact on their joints than other land sports.  It can also be practiced all year round, indoors and outdoors, so it’s a very versatile sport. In addition, should your child choose to persue a career as a lifeguard, the career is financially rewarding and can be a full-time or part-time position.  We are also always looking for great candidates for swim instructors!
