Swimming is a crucial skill to acquire. The most obvious reason for this is because knowing how to swim can ensure your child’s safety in the water. However, swimming is also a great skill which provides many other benefits. For example, swimming is a great form of physical exercise, a source of confidence building and a fun activity for kids to enjoy during the summer months.
Learning how to swim ensures your child’s basic safety in the water, but learning how to become a better swimmer can allow them to feel more accomplished and more confident in the water.
So...how do you become a better swimmer?
Believe in yourself. This is the most important of all. Trust in your ability to be able to get better and better with each swim.
Learn to relax. This sounds simple enough to do, until you’re actually in the water. Teach your kids to never fight the water, but to relax and become comfortable while they’re in the pool.
Set swimming goals. Just as you would set goals in other aspects of your life, setting swimming goals keeps kids motivated and allows them to feel a sense of accomplishment when the goals are achieved. They do not need to be massive goals, even just small steps towards becoming more comfortable in the water is a goal to be celebrated.
Practice, practice, practice. Swimming, just like learning to play a musical instrument or riding a bike, requires practice. By practicing regularly, your kids can notice their progress and keep challenging themselves. Remember, practice makes perfect.
Join a swimming family. Choosing to put your kids in swimming lessons can be a bit intimidating at first. But, choosing a committed swim family and being surrounded by a team of motivated swim instructors, will help make the most of your kids’ swimming experience and provide them with the support needed to become better swimmers.
Encouraging your child to follow these goals will increase their ability to improve dramatically. Join our Swim Clo Aquatics swimming family by registering for our Spring swimming sessions. Registration opens Friday February 22nd, 2019 so mark that on your calendar to make sure you get your preferred swim time! We provide a nurturing, learning environment for your child to practice and gain confidence in their swimming ability.
Happy Swimming~!
